Climate change, energy & sustainability

Climate change is a key issue for London. As the effects of climate change continue to be realised we will see hotter, drier summers and warmer wetter winters, coupled with increased frequency of extreme weather events such as heat waves, droughts, heavy rain and floods. The situation is likely to be exacerbated in the built up environment of London.

London Councils supports the efforts of the capital’s boroughs to reduce carbon emissions (climate change mitigation) and to prepare for the expected effects of climate change (adaptation). You may be interested to read more about our current projects:

RE:NEW pan-London home retrofitting scheme

London boroughs are currently rolling out the RE:NEW home retro-fitting project in specific areas of each local authority. You can read more about the project here.

The Green Deal

We’re working with our RE:NEW project partners to ensure that the government’s future Green Deal is able to meet the specific needs of London’s households.

Electric vehicles

London’s boroughs are working closely with the GLA to deliver electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the capital. You can read more here.
