In 2008 London Councils and Government Office for London Opens in a new window launched The London Narrative, which set out the pledges made through Local Area Agreements by public sector partners across the capital to tackle six key challenges facing the city.

The London Narrative challenges cover six areas - health, crime, the environment, economic prosperity and child poverty, education and communities:

Challenge 1: Helping Londoners live longer, healthier, more independent lives

Challenge 2: Continue to reduce crime levels

Challenge 3: To create an environmentally sustainable London

Challenge 4: Increased prosperity and reduced child poverty in London

Challenge 5: Ensuring everyone, especially young people, achieve their full potential

Challenge 6: Creating stronger, more empowered and cohesive communities

The London Narrative outlines the priorities most frequently represented in London boroughs' Local Area Agreements (LAAs). The document also sets out how partners intend to work together to tackle priorities more effectively, including through peer support and using influence of the Minister for London within government to unblock obstacles to progress.
