The suburbs are home to 60 per cent of London's population and provide jobs that account for a third of the capital's economic output.
This piece of research from London Councils highlights what a vital economic, social and environmental contribution suburbs make to the capital. It shows that investment in the suburbs now will put London in a very strong position when the capital emerges from the current economic downturn, and warns that if action is not taken the whole of London could suffer in the future, both financially and through loss of skills.
