Tackling worklessness in social housing

Tackling Worklessness in Social Housing; what works in helping tenants employment?

This page provides the papers from our event held on 30 April 2009 at London Councils.

Tackling worklessness is a priority for many London boroughs with a range of new policy initiatives to get more people off benefits and into work or training.

We know that levels of worklessness are disproportionately high among social housing residents, and housing organisations have spent £200 million in the last five years on projects to help workless residents. But with over four million people living in households with no one in work or training, there’s plenty more to do to tackle this problem.

This event looked at ways of joining up this work, both within local government and with other housing organisations.  We heard from successful programmes across London and had an opportunity to establish new links and partnerships.

With contributions from Peabody Trust, Broomleigh, L.B Hackney, L.B Hammersmith & Fulham, London Councils and the LDA.
