Developing low carbon economies

Resources and guidance

Introduction

To assist boroughs in building their local green economy, London Councils has pulled together some of the advice/guidance currently available online.

This is also intended to identify any gaps in the available guidance, and whether there is an opportunity for London Councils, working with the boroughs, to fill these gaps.

General background information

The main resource for general information for local government on low carbon economies is the Local Government Improvement and Development site (www.idea.gov.uk). Within the website is a subsection on low carbon economies:

Another useful source of general material can be found within the LDA website (www.lda.gov.uk). Again, there is some background information:

  • The London Low Carbon economy
  • Economic opportunities
  • Green Enterprise District

as well as information on LDA initiatives related to developing the local low carbon economy, including:

  • Low Carbon Skills and Employment Programme
  • Retrofit Employer Accord Project (REAP)
  • RE:FIT
  • Green500

Some of these initiatives are currently on hold while future funding issues are resolved. However they remain useful examples of the type of initiatives that are likely to attract government financial support in the future.
