This project aims to support the considerable work being undertaken on apprenticeships within London Councils and partner organisations, and in London's boroughs, to deliver the agreed aspiration of over 2000 new apprenticeship starts in London by 2012.
Work began in 2009 to turn these plans into a reality, and these pages will both inform and support boroughs to help deliver a relevant and high quality apprenticeship offer in their localities.
By March 2012 London boroughs had not only met their target of creating 2000 new apprenticeships, but had delivered more than 600 on top of their original ambitions - the final total has been announced as 2644.
This is 2644 opportunities for young Londoners to continue learning, gain qualifications and invaluable work experience as well as being paid.
In roles as diverse as animal attendants, social care and ICT, apprentices are taking their first career steps, with many progressing to advanced apprenticeships and permanent jobs.
We celebrated this achievement at an event, with speakers including Cllr Steve Reed, Simon Hughes MP and apprentices working for London boroughs. Find out more about the event here.
