2012 Games

In July to September, our city will play host to thousands of athletes, officials, journalists and millions of international and domestic visitors.

London boroughs will have a significant role to play in supporting the broader celebrations across the city but also in making sure that the city continues to be able to deliver the excellent public services that Londoners expect.

The Olympic Games will run from 27 July to 12 August 2012, and the Paralympics will follow shortly after, from 29 August to 9 September.

The 2012 Games also offer unique opportunities for communities, creating jobs, improving London's transport infrastructure and giving a huge boost to tourism and related sectors. They will also bring world class sporting venues, provide thousands of volunteering opportunities, a four-year cultural festival and enhance London's global reputation.

London boroughs have a vital role to play in securing these benefits and ensuring the successful delivery of the Games. London Councils will continue to work to with boroughs to support them prepare for the Games and ensure that potential opportunities are maximised and the benefits of hosting the 2012 Games are spread across all of London.

The Olympic and Paralympic Games are a fantastic catalyst to make improvements across all areas of life in London; we are working with the boroughs to achieve this.
