Guidance: Gang and group offenders - a practitioner's handbook of ideas and interventions

Policy area: Crime and public protection

The ‘Gang and Group Offenders - A Practitioner’s Handbook of Ideas & Interventions’ is now available on the LCJB website

The handbook has been developed to support work with group and gang offending, and has been produced using the knowledge and expertise of relevant London practitioners. It shares ideas and current interventions being used across London.

Tackling gang and group offending forms part of the anti-violence agenda, and this handbook assists in addressing these issues.

Features of this handbook:

  • It collates information from multiple agencies into one place such as; Local Authorities, Education, Police, Victim Support, Crown Prosecution Service, HM Prison Service, Youth Justice Board and London Probation Trust
  • It clarifies each agency’s role in managing group and gang offenders
  • It is London focussed; all interventions have been used in London and contact details are provided, as well as some case studies
  • It captures a broad range of work from early intervention to reduce the recruitment of young people into gangs, to reducing serious youth violence through to enforcing the law on serious organised criminals.

If you use the handbook, please complete the simple feedback tool. This will assist in evaluating its usefulness, and enable any modifications if necessary.
