Borough support

A key aspect of the Strategic Policy team is to offer boroughs support in the development and review of policies, programmes and projects for tackling crime priorities locally and in partnership across London. Current areas of work cover a range of policy areas including the following:

Anti-Social Behaviour – London Councils offers support to boroughs through the London Anti Social Behaviour Managers group. The group aims to reduce anti social behaviour in London and provides a knowledge sharing platform for ASB officers across London.

Violence Against Women and Girls – London Councils is working with the GLA and other key partners to help boroughs address violence against women and Girls.

London Councils is part of the violence against women panel which was estabilshed by the mayor to deliver the strategy that is set out in the report 'The way forward – taking action to end violence against women and girls'.

From April 2011, all local authorities are expected to review all domestic homicide cases where someone has been killed by their current or former partner. The police, local authority, probation service and voluntary partners need to review the circumstances of domestic homicides so that they can learn lessons from them which can be used to prevent future domestic violence related homicides.

London Councils was also  part of the now defunct London Serious Youth Violence Board which was set up to tackle serious violence amongst the youth of London.

London Councils also commissioned London Metropolitan University to carry out research providing a clear picture of gangs in London.

The London Heads of Community Service – London Councils, supports and works with the London Heads of community Services to address local community safety issues across London.

Seminars, Conferences and meetings – The Safer Stronger Communities Team at London Councils also holds adhoc meetings and events that address various aspects of crime and the creation of safer communities as and when the need arises.
