London Councils is working with the eight London borough pilots in the national Community Budgets initiative that was rolled out by the Department for Communities and Local Government and the Department for Education earlier this year.
Community Budgets are a way to integrate public resources to provide services focused on families with multiple and complex needs in an area. The resources will be under the direct control of the local council and they will be accountable to their local community for the way the resources are used.
The government has recently announced that it will be inviting more councils to apply for Community Budgets - around fifty more will receive Community Budgets this year with at least another sixty in 2012-13. London Councils is working to ensure that the lessons learned from the eight pilot boroughs in London will be shared with other London boroughs interested in applying for Community Budgets.
