Our main area of focus is promoting the uptake of green infrastructure and sustainable drainage in new developments through the planning system.
We will seek to influence the London Environment Strategy to strengthen encouragement of sustainable drainage.
The GLA is mapping SUDS across London. Boroughs are encouraged to submit sites for inclusion to the GLA.
The GLA has also mapped London's street trees.
TfL has published its guide to incorporating SUDS in roads and public realm, called SUDS in London - a Guide.
Green Infrastructure Taskforce 2014-2015
The Green Infrastructure Taskforce was established to bring together expertise to identify how a more strategic and long-term approach to investment in green infrastructure can be delivered. The Taskforce considered the strategic issues which need to be addressed in relation to the design, management and operation of London’s green infrastructure. Cllr Julian Bell, Chair of the Transport and Environment Committee, was our representative on the taskforce. The Taskforce published its report: 'Natural Capital: Investing in a Green Infrastructure for a Future City' in December 2015. We produced a member briefing covering the recommendations for boroughs, which can be viewed here (members login required, officers can request a copy from Jennifer Sibley). We reported progress on the recommendations for boroughs and London Councils to TEC Executive in February 2017.
