Adult skills

London Councils is working with the boroughs, the LEP and other partners to better align skills provision with employers’ needs, and help Londoners to acquire the skills they need to find and progress in work.

London boroughs have an important role to play in this area, helping to bring businesses and skills providers together to identify local economic needs, ensure provision responds to those needs, and attract learners to the courses that will help them progress in work.

The boroughs are well-placed to play a strategic brokerage role within a reformed skills system because of their links with local businesses, their understanding of their local economies, and their existing partnerships with skills providers, schools, and other key players including Jobcentre Plus.

Our work in this area includes lobbying government to give London more influence over the adult skills system.
