Priority themes for 2015-2016

London Councils aims to ensure that a local democratic voice is built into the reshaping of local policing and crime reduction services through:

  • ensuring borough interests are represented in the next phase of MPS business planning (reflecting on the impact of the Local Policing Models)
  • making the case for devolution of criminal justice budgets to London in the context of London Councils broader devolution and reform agenda
  • supporting MOPAC and partners in developing detailed proposals on, Youth Offending, Rehabilitation and CCTV.

Priority themes for 2015-16 include:

Preventing violent extremism / counter terrorism

London Councils work in this area includes a focus on the implications and likely responsibilities which will arise from the Counter Terrorism and Security Act.

Violence (including Gangs)

London Councils work in this area includes ensuring borough interests are represented in pan-London gang initiatives (including influencing the roll out of the pan-London gang exit and resettlement service).

Violence Against Women and Girls

London Councils work in this area includes ensuring that the developing pan-London initiatives reflect local needs. Working with the VAWG Panel and MOPAC to take forward the London VAWG Strategy, including the issue of funding and provision of refuge beds.

Reducing Offending

London Councils work in this area includes representing borough interests to the new Community Rehabilitation provider and improving the operation of Integrated Offender Management.
