Councillor Teresa O'Neill was elected to the executive of London Councils at its annual general meeting on 8 June 2010.

She was elected to Bexley council to represent Brampton Ward in May 1998, and became cabinet member for lifelong learning & leisure (promoting education for life) in 2001/2002.

Cllr O'Neill became deputy leader of the Conservative Group and opposition spokesman for education & youth services in 2003, and then deputy leader of the council and the first cabinet member for children's services in 2006. She became leader of the council in May 2008.

She has been involved in politics for many years and has a background in the financial services sector.
