PLEASE NOTE: The venue for this event is now Coin Street Neighbourhood Centre, 108 Stamford Street, South Bank, London, SE1 9NH

The seminar is being organised by the Child Sexual Exploitation Task & Finish Group which reports to the London Safeguarding Children Board.

The focus of the morning will be on developing best practice in intelligence gathering. The important role of social workers and others carrying out return home interviews in the gathering of information on perpetrators, is highlighted in the Oxfordshire Serious Case Review:

Child sexual exploitation is happening everywhere - If it isn’t actively sought it will not be uncovered. This requires different skills – police officers to act more like social workers, social workers to act more like detectives.

The seminar will also look at developing best practice more generally and attendees will be asked to consider whether there are issues which the CSE Task and Finish Group should take forward to support practitioners in their work.

The seminar is aimed at the following staff and the ambition is to have professionals working in all London boroughs attending the seminar:

  • Staff and managers responsible for carrying out RHIs
  • Local authority missing children and CSE leads
  • Commissioners responsible for commissioning RHI services
  • Police and health colleagues who work with young people who go missing
