Violent and gang crime targeted by London Councils grants

Schemes to cut the numbers of young Londoners becoming involved in gangs and falling into a life of violent crime have received a £700,000 funding boost from London Councils.

Among the four organisations that have been commissioned by London Councils is The Princes Trust which will receive £135,748 to run anti knife, guns, and gangs workshops to help young people aged between 16 and 24 at risk of falling into violent crime. London Action Trust will receive £221,349 to train young people to mediate in disputes to help prevent them escalating further.

The Comedy School will receive £117,800 to expand the It's No Joke project which aims to raise awareness of the consequences of knife crime among 11-14 year olds. Fairbridge in London will receive £224,942 to develop action plans to help divert young people away from a life of crime. Fairbridge will also hold special courses for youngsters to discuss issues associated with being involved in gangs and violent crime.
