London Councils welcomes appointment of borough champion to City Hall
London Councils has today welcomed the appointment of its Executive Member for Crime and Public Protection - Councillor Ian Clement - as Mayor Johnson's new deputy mayor for government relations.
Welcoming the appointment, Councillor Merrick Cockell, Chairman of London Councils, said:
"I would like to offer my congratulations to Ian - he has long been a vocal and forthright champion for Bexley's local people and has served all Londoners in his role at London Councils.
"This proves that Mayor Johnson is taking his promise to work more closely with the boroughs very seriously. This is a heavyweight appointment for a heavyweight role.
"Throughout the Mayoral election campaign London Councils argued that London's next Mayor should work closely with the boroughs to develop locally-tailored solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing the capital. Boris Johnson has clearly listened and we look forward to working with Ian to harness the vast potential of London government and deliver more for Londoners."
Councillor Ian Clement has today been appointed by Mayor Boris Johnson to serve as his Deputy Mayor, Government Relations.
Councillor Clement currently serves as London Councils' Executive Member for Crime and Public Protection, a role he has held since 2006. He has been leader of Bexley Council since May 2006.
