New housing vision to tackle affordability and aspiration in homes for Londoners
London Councils plan to tackle affordability and aspiration in the capital's housing market is set out in 'Our vision for homes in London'.
The document, the result of a year-long cross-party review of housing policy, sets out London Councils' plans to tackle the capital's growing housing crisis and ensure all Londoners achieve the homes they deserve.
House prices are surging beyond the reach of ordinary Londoners: the average house price in Greater London in May 2007 stood at £330,000 - nine times the average London income of £36,000.
Social housing is also not working as well as it should do - almost two thirds of all workless households in London now live in social housing. Just over half of all social renting working age households in London are not in work.
