It's official: Capital’s councils deliver best value for money in the country

London is by far the best performing region in how well its boroughs manage their finances and deliver value for money for their residents, shows a report from the Audit Commission published yesterday.

The capital's boroughs scored significantly higher than the rest of the country when judged on their financial management, reporting and value for money. Eight London boroughs improved their score since last year, with ten scoring the highest grade possible.

Commenting on the Audit Commission's report into the use of council resources in 2007, Chairman of London Councils Councillor Merrick Cockell said:

"These results extol the efforts London's boroughs have made in meeting increased demand for services against a background of rising service delivery costs and a real terms cut in funding from central government this year. "
