Leslie Phillips launches Freedom Pass campaign

Actor Leslie Phillips today (Monday) gave the green light for more free travel for London's older and disabled people through the Freedom Pass - the concessionary fares scheme paid for by London's boroughs.

He joined Freedom Pass holders from across the capital at the London Transport Museum to launch the campaign that will remind older and disabled Londoners to renew their passes by 31 March.

The Freedom Pass, managed by London Councils, is the country's most comprehensive free travel scheme. More than a million older and disabled Londoners currently hold a pass.
London's boroughs have paid for and run the Freedom Pass for more than two decades, spending around £3 billion on the scheme

The pass gives disabled Londoners and those 60 and over free travel on the capital's network of trains, tubes, buses, and trams.

From April, Freedom Pass holders will also be able to travel free of charge on local buses outside the morning peak anywhere in England as part of the National Concessionary Bus Travel scheme. This additional benefit is being paid for by the government.
