Government Office for London

GOL was established in 1994 as part of a system of regional government offices throughout the country.

It represents, and delivers policies on behalf of, 11 central government departments (Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform; Department for Communities and Local Government; Cabinet Office; Department for Culture, Media and Sport; Department for children, Schools and Families; Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs; Department of Transport; Department of Health, Department for Work and Pensions; Home Office; and Ministry of Justice).

It works directly with boroughs, including the establishment of Local Area Agreements and local public service agreements, comprehensive performance assessments, and capacity building and improvement initiatives.
