About the statistical profiles

All the statistical information has been sourced from various government departments and other authorities:

- the area, population and ethnic breakdown figures (all from the 2001 Census with 2008 mid-year population estimates* revised by ONS).

- the figures on school and pupil numbers (Pupils and their characteristics, DCSF, 2009).

- unemployment statistics (ONS benefit count from ONS Nomis official labour market statistics, 2009). Please note this will not include those out of paid employment but not claiming Job Seekers Allowance.

- housing tenure statistics (Housing Strategy Statistical Appendix 2007/08, DCLG).

The council's band D 2009/10 council tax figure is as reported by the DCLG.

Budget is the net budget requirement as recorded by the DCLG. The budget requirement is including special expenses but excluding local council precepts.

*London Councils shares the reservations held by many of the capital's councils about the accuracy of the ONS's revised mid-2006 population figures published in August 2007. ONS's revised estimate of London's population suggests it has actually fallen by 60,000 whereas we believe that the population has not fallen but actually increased over the original estimate.

Because population data plays a key role in determining council funding, this change meant that London's public services lost out on £130 million of vital funding.
