Legislation affecting London's councils

Recently enacted legislation that impacts upon London councils includes:

London Local Authorities & Transport for London Act 2008

The London Local Authorities & Transport for London Act 2008 received Royal Assent on 21 July 2008.

The Act gives the London borough councils and Transport for London (TfL) further powers in respect of their responsibilities as highway, traffic and street authorities

Housing & Regeneration Act 2008

The Government's Housing and Regeneration Act was given Royal Assent on 22 July 2008.

The Act created the new Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and the Office of Tenants and Social Landlords.

Greater London Authority Act 2007

The GLA Bill completed all its final stages in the House of Lords and received Royal Assent on October 23 2007.

The Act introduces additional and enhanced powers for the Mayor of London and the London Assembly in several areas including housing, tackling climate change, planning and waste, health and culture which have implications for local authorities in London.
