Private bills we promote
London Councils co-ordinates the promotion of the London Local Authorities Bills through Parliament in partnership with the City of Westminster, on behalf of all 32 London boroughs and the City of London. These are Private Bills which only apply to the Greater London area. The Bills listed below link to the United Kingdom Parliament web site which is updated by the Parliament site manager as they progress. Details of the Committee hearings and debates are also listed.
The three Bills currently progressing through Parliament are:
- The 10th London Local Authority Bill. This contains measures to help councils tackle a range of street-scene and public protections issues.
- The 3rd London Local Authority & Transport for London Bill. This seeks to ensure that pedestrians, cyclists and motorists can travel safely and smoothly across London.
- The London Local Authorities (Shopping Bags Bill). This seeks to ban the distribution of free, throw away shopping bags in the capital, and follows a London-wide consultation organised by London Councils.
