The capital’s local authorities were praised last night at the first London Compact Awards – which celebrate strong working relationships between the voluntary and public sector in London.
The awards are part of the nationwide Compact week and were hosted by the Greater London Authority, a leading member of the London Compact formed in 2003. The Compact is an agreement between local, regional and central government and the voluntary and community sector to work together to bring greater benefits to local communities.
London Councils Chairman Councillor Cockell said:
“As one of the leading funders of the capital’s voluntary sector, London Councils regularly witnesses the vital role played by voluntary groups across the city.
“The Compact is so important because it makes certain that these groups are able to work closely and effectively with councils and other public sector bodies to benefit all our communities. We are delighted to be involved in the London Regional Compact Awards and look forward to celebrating the best examples of partnership working from across the capital.”
