Deciding our funding process
In 2004, we started to review the way in which the grants programme operated to make sure it targeted funding at services that supported Londoners' priority needs.
Recommendations about the way our grants programme should operate were made by an independent review board in November 2005 and published as Funding for the Future.
We then consulted the voluntary and community sector about the board's recommendations.
The results of this consultation together with the board's recommendations were taken into account by our Leaders' Committee (made up of the most senior councillor in each London borough) which decided in November 2006 that, in future, London Councils would commission the services it wanted to fund.
The Leaders' Committee agreed London Councils should adopt commissioning as its approach to funding.
London Councils then developed the detail of our funding process in close consultation with voluntary and community sector organisations.
