Londoners' involvement in cultural activity linked to the cultural Olympiad

London Councils is providing 12 organisations with £300,000 to develop cultural activities across London that celebrate the forthcoming cultural Olympiad and 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The projects will celebrate the cultural diversity of London, internationalism and explore links with China in the run up to the handover from the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2008. They will work with disabled people, children and young people, older people and people from disadvantaged communities across London. Exhibitions, street theatre, carnival, the internet, dance and theatre are just some of the innovative ways that these projects will bring people together and involve them in cultural activities. They will explore how a positive cultural legacy might be created through the cultural Olympiad.

These are pilot projects for one year and their evaluation will inform London Councils’ funding in this area for the following three years.
