Features of the 2010 issue Freedom Pass

Why the new card in 2010?

The new card brings the Freedom Pass design in line with the English National Concessionary Scheme passes, which were issued in the rest of the country in 2008 onwards. It also adds ITSO technology to the existing Oyster smart ticketing system and is the first of its kind.

How to identify each pass

Discretionary Freedom PassThe disabled persons pass has an orange strip.

The discretionary (London only) disabled persons pass looks a little different - see right:

ENCTS rose and hologram

This logo and hologram indicates that the card is a valid pass for obtaining concessionary travel on local eligible bus services in England.

Card technology

The London Freedom Pass incorporates two smart ticketing technologies; ITSO and Oyster. ITSO is mainly used outside of London. Though not yet available everywhere, it is increasingly being used on non-London bus networks. Oyster is used across the transport network in London. The Freedom Pass uses new generation card technology to support both ticketing systems.

The photograph

The photograph will be printed on the actual card, to provide a better protection against fraud and so that it is also easier for the card to be inspected by transport staff when necessary.
