Employment and skills workshop: Making a difference together
Following on from London Councils 'Going to Work' research in July 2008, a meeting was organised to bring together Regeneration, Learning and Skills and Human Resources staff in order to discuss how these teams could work together to combat worklessness in their local communities.
Main topics discussed included Local Employment Partnerships, Skills and Jobs Pledge and apprenticeships.
The meeting heard three presentations from boroughs on the practical measures they were taking and group work produced a number of recommendations including a need for workforce forecasting and a pan-London apprenticeship good practice forum.
The workshop was well attended and featured interesting speakers with a wealth of experience and knowledge.
The presentations are available on the events page.
We only had a limited time for questions during the panel session, but the panel members kindly agreed that we could forward any further questions to them - if you have a question for any of the following, please send it initially to caroline.viac@londoncouncils.gov.uk
- Andrew Scully, Head of Recruitment, Retention & Reward, Ealing Council
- Martin Tucker, Regeneration Manager, Haringey Council
- Dean Shoesmith, Executive Head of Human Resources, Sutton Council and Interim Head of Human Resources, LB Merton
- Jeffrey Worthy, Senior Performance Improvement Manager, Jobcentre Plus
