The Mayor's Cultural Strategy
The Mayor of London is responsible for producing a Cultural Strategy for the capital, which is statutory requirement of the Greater London Authority Act 1999. A draft strategy will go out for public consultation in 2009
Cultural Metropolis
As a precursor to the full Strategy, in November 2008, the Mayor of London published a direction of travel document, 'Cultural Metropolis'.
The document sets out the Mayor's initial vision for the visual and performing arts, museums, galleries, achieves, libraries, crafts, music and arts provision, the creative industries, heritage and tourism.

London Councils' response
London Councils has submitted a response to 'Cultural Metropolis' on behalf of the 32 boroughs and the City of London.

'Culture Metropolis' seminar
As part of this consultation, London Councils worked with the GLA to host a seminar at London's Living Room at City Hall. London Councils' Chairman, Cllr. Merrick Cockell and the Mayor's Advisor on Culture, Munira Mirza addressed the seminar and led a detailed discussion on the future of culture in London.

London Cultural Strategy Working Group
A London Cultural Strategy group has been formed to oversee the development and implementation of the Strategy.
The London boroughs are represented on this Group by:
- Cllr. Merrick Cockell, Chairman of London Councils and Executive Portfolio Holder for Culture, Tourism and 2012
- Toni Ainge, Head of Cultural Services, London Borough of Bexley and Chair of Chief Leisure Officers Association London
