London Boroughs and 2012: map

London Councils and London boroughs are determined to ensure that we make the most of the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity London hosting the 2012 Games presents and that the benefits are spread across the capital to all communities.

London's councils will play a vital role both in the planning and preparations for the London 2012 Games and delivering the Games themselves. As importantly, it is boroughs, working in partnership, that will focus on ensuring that the Games deliver a lasting legacy for all Londoners long after they have finished.

Click on any of the London boroughs on the map below to find out more about what each are planning for 2012.

Boroughs all across the capital will be:-

  • hosting London 2012 Games events
  • hosting international teams at pre-approved training camps
  • holding sport and cultural events during and leading up to Games time
  • welcoming the world to London and providing arrival and departure services at major transport hubs
  • creating the Olympic Route Network and managing transport infrastructure during the Games
  • providing support and assistance to deliver a range of other diverse services including security and policing, licensing, trading standards enforcement, waste removal and street cleaning.

Furthermore boroughs will continue to play a vital role in supporting communities in the years leading up to, and beyond, the Games to maximise the opportunities in a range of areas - from business support to tourism, volunteering to sports participation, new jobs and skills to culture and arts.

As well as individual plans, many boroughs are working in partnership to deliver programmes of activity in the sub-regions.

In the weeks and months leading up to the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, athletes from around the world will be training and preparing for the competition. Some of these athletes will come to London and use facilities known as 'Pre-Games Training Camps'. 99 facilities across the London boroughs have been selected to be part of the official Olympic and Paralympic Guides to training facilities.
