2012 Games
London Councils strongly supported the bid to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and very much welcomed the announcement on 6 July 2005 that London was to host the 2012 Games.
The 2012 Games will have a huge impact on our communities, creating jobs, improving London's transport infrastructure and giving a huge boost to tourism and related sectors. They will also bring world class sporting venues, provide thousands of volunteering opportunities, a four-year cultural festival and enhance London's global reputation.
London boroughs have a vital role to play in securing these benefits and ensuring the successful delivery of the Games. London Councils will be working to ensure that potential opportunities are maximised and the benefits of hosting the 2012 Games are spread across all of London.
The Olympic and Paralympic Games are a fantastic catalyst to make improvements across all areas of life in London; we will work with the boroughs to achieve this.
Our partners
We meet regularly with London boroughs at both officer and member level. We manage a network of 2012 lead officers from each of the 32 boroughs and the City of London.
The Culture, Tourism and 2012 Forum brings together councillors from the 32 London boroughs and the City of London to discuss issues affecting boroughs around culture, tourism and the 2012 Games.
We engage with a broad range of stakeholders around 2012 including:
- London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games
- Olympic Delivery Authority
- the Greater London Authority
- London Development Agency
- Sport England London
- cultural agencies such as Arts Council England London and MLA London.

London Councils 2012 Grants programme
London Councils has committed £1.8 million to enhance Londoners' involvement in cultural activity linked to the themes of the Cultural Olympiad and in volunteering in order to ensure that communities across London benefit from the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
London Councils funded 19 organisations in the pilot phase.
