Pay and Benefits Survey 2009-10

The aim of the survey is to provide comprehensive pay and benefits information on a wide range of occupations and levels of seniority.  If possible we do however recommend that other data sources are also used when comparing borough salaries to the 'market'. Responding boroughs have the full results.

For employees on the London pay spine, the rates shown include the 1 April 2009 pay award; refer to GLPC Circular 2/2009 dated 11 September 2009. For the 'education inspectorate' and 'educational psychologist' the salaries are as reported in the survey and for HAY grades the minimum and maximum of the salary range is quoted.

Recruitment and retention survey

We have just published the results of our annual recruitment and retention survey. Unsurprising both indices are at their 'lowest' level since the survey started in 2001/02.

This year's survey was conducted over the period November 2008 to March 2009. The figures reported will therefore not reflect any changes which have occurred since these dates; these will be picked up in the next report.

2008-09 absence and turnover figures

Capital Ambition has published absence and turnover figures in London local government for 2008-09.

Sickness absence rates in the non-schools workforce have fallen steadily over recent years from a peak of 11.3 days in 2001/02 to 9.4 days in 2008/09.  (Using a three rolling average the change is 11.23 days to 9.86 days.)

The reduction in absence since its 2001/02 peak equates to a notional saving of £23M and the equivalent of an additional 850 FTEs providing services.

Employee turnover rates in the non-schools workforce have fallen steadily over recent years from a peak of 18.6% in 2001/02 to 12.6% 2008/09.  Over the same period the respective figures for resignations are 11.6% and 7.0%.
