Response to Raising Expectations: White Paper on 16-19 education and adult skills

Introduction:

London Councils and the Association of London Directors of Children's Services (ALDCS) have submitted a joint response to the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF)'s White Paper on 16 to 19 education and skills 'Raising Expectations: Enabling the system to deliver.'

Key recommendations outlined in the response included:

  • Government to recognise existing local authority collaboration in London through ALDCS and London Councils by accepting proposals for a local authority led Shadow Regional Planning Group for London.
  • Government to support a regional co-ordinating model led by London authorities as the only structure capable of integrating both the pan-London nature of young people's travel to learn patterns and the sub-regional pattern of employment opportunities
  • the Skills Funding Agency to continue the Learning and Skills Council's strong engagement with Local Area Agreements
