Capital Ambition, in conjunction with London Borough of Lewisham, is launching a new Service Transformation Academy to help London boroughs to achieve greater and faster efficiency savings whilst improving the quality of the services delivered.
Funded by the Department of Communities and Local Government, the Academy will bring together experts from across the Capital to assist one another and learn from each other's experiences of how transformation is actually achieved. Examples of best practice will be gathered and brought together to form a unique resource of what an idealised London Borough might look like.
The Academy will:
- Offer structured training in the fundamentals of successful service transformation, building on the work of other initiatives such as the National Process Improvement project
- Develop a searchable resource of what works, how it was achieved and who was involved. This can then be used to search for new ideas by service area, national indicator etc.
- Provide support and guidance for service heads, transformation teams, senior management and elected members
- Promote service specific transformation networks which will enable service heads to share ideas and benchmark their services
- Work with local colleges to provide NVQ level 2 business improvement training for staff involved in the delivery of services. Although provided by external agencies this will be free to Local Authorities
- Create service transformation peer support network to enable teams to visit and learn from the good work of others
- Link to Capital Ambition's Efficiency Challenge (LEC) and Performance Solution (LAPS) so that targeted support can be offered once needs are identified
Work has already started and the initial meeting of the transformation network for Local Authority Planning Services has already taken place.
