Financial management was one of the main areas for improvement identified in the Energy Procurement Action Plan Opens in a new window self assessment returns. In support of this, a Financial Energy Management workshop was held on November 20th 2007 in central London.
The objectives of the workshop were
- to help authorities to consider whether/how they might implement integrated financial and energy management processes
- to provide working examples of how some organisations have managed this change and what the pros and cons were
- to examine issues such as e-billing, bill checking, data uploads, supplier responses and e-enabling financial processes.
The workshop was attended by representatives of 28 authorities from London, the South East and Midlands. Susie Owen from the OGC opened the event with a presentation on the drivers for change and the case for e-billing. This was followed by case study presentations from Gateshead Council, LB Haringey, Tesco plc and Suffolk County Council. The workshop ended with a panel question and answer session giving delegates the opportunity to ask any questions raised by the morning's presentations.
