Making your meters work July 2010

LEP held a 'Making your meters work' event on July 5th 2010. Delegates were able to hear directly from LASER and Buying Solutions about the AMR solutions that were available to them, through the AMR and energy supply frameworks. Dylan Crompton, from Energy 360, gave a very practical insight into best practice approaches to non-half hourly electricity AMR installation programmes.

In the afternoon, Paul Hamblyn, from Pulse 24, demystified the issues around gas metering. Presenting on behalf of ESTA, Paul took and what could have been a very dry subject and brought it to life, with delegates commenting on how easily understood this complex subject had been made.

Without exception all delegates found the three case studies useful:

  • London Fire Brigade explaining their reasons for installing AMR, and a number of the energy efficiency measures they had implemented and the levels of success achieved.
  • LB Haringey, going through their gas AMR installation programme, their meter reading project and the use of various energy efficiency and broader sustainability measures in their leisure centres
  • LB Camden explained their meter register, how it was managed and its value. Delegates were able to watch a live online demonstration of how meter companies, or other stakeholders, such as schools, could log on to the system, report faults, reads and even view a map and photo of the metering arrangements.

One delegate commented that 'the case studies helped warn of potential pitfalls, which is invaluable.'

At the end of the afternoon session, a CRC update was provided and as always this led to a lively debate of the pros and cons of the scheme, its impact on energy efficiency and its associated administrative burden.

During the day, delegates were asked to give their views on a number of key energy supply and CRC issues: to read more, click on Delegate live survey July 2010 Opens in a new window (PDF document iconPDF, 11 KB).
