The Local Government Energy Procurement Action Plan launch was held at Prospero House, London on April 18th 2007. It was very well attended, with representation from 29 London authorities including London boroughs, the GLA and the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority.
In the morning session, delegates heard a number of presentations about the project. Cllr George Meehan, the Leader of Haringey Council, gave an introductory speech endorsing the action plan and strongly encouraging boroughs to use it to assess their current energy usage. Presentations were also given by Nick Bell (Finance Director, City of Westminster and Chair of the Project Board), Stephen Duckworth (Head of Strategic Sourcing, Energy and Food, OGC), Charles Redshaw (Energy Category Manager, OGC), Michael Wood (Head of Procurement, LB Haringey and Project Director) and Ken Cole (Director, LCE).
In the afternoon workshop sessions, delegates had the opportunity to go through the areas covered by the Action Plan in more detail and raise any queries. The project team will be using the feedback from the workshop sessions to help determine what further support might be needed by authorities to assist them in implementing the actions in the plan.
