This is the first annual report from Capital Ambition.
It details the impressive start to the delivery of the Capital Ambition strategy, as well as our continued intention to ensure that the public money invested in this new approach to sector-led improvement delivers benefits to Londoners and the wider community, and achieves the genuine acclaim of key stakeholders.

 

 


Achievements
Significant achievements in both efficiencies and innovation for 2008/09 include:

  • a new Out-of-Hours call centre framework contract was signed worth over £6 million and saving 400 per cent on the cost of telephone calls
  • the ‘Report it’ service is now available for all residents via the internet and their mobile phones saving over £14 per contact, based on face to face costs
  • a reduction in third party spend of nearly £2 billion from the use of the online expenditure analysis tool
  • £2.3 million savings on postal services costs following work with OGC
  • £350 million supplier contracts subject to innovative pilot of commercial management techniques creating London local government as a critical client
  • holding an ICT hardware e-auction with OGC, at which hardware worth nearly £49 million was on offer, selling for around £38.5 million. 15 London boroughs took part with an average saving to them of 12.2 per cent (almost £2 million)
  • the London Energy Project identifying major savings on energy management and developing the national HTML standard for on-line billing
  • the launch of the London Efficiency Challenge (LEC) testing best practice and areas for improvement in every London borough
  • £4.5 billion value of contracts now available on the Contracts Register (CRS) driving improved value management with suppliers 
  • The Electronic Knowledge Exchange making transparent to all authorities agency staff costs and usage 
  • The consultancy procurement toolkit providing expenditure and comparison data. Testing with boroughs shows potential savings over £4 million.
