The London Shopping Bag Bill - how you can get involved

If you support London Councils' shopping bag bill, you could email your MP. All you need to do is click here and follow the simple instructions.

What else can you do?

The easiest way to get involved is to stop taking throwaway shopping bags at the till. Re-use the ones you already have, or invest in a re-useable bag for life. There are all different types - and once you get into the habit of bringing it with you, nothing could be easier.

Go to your council website. Most councils have information on how you can help increase recycling and reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill.

Start thinking about how you can reduce your waste. Do you need to buy items with lots of packaging when there are alternatives?

Where to go for more information

There are loads of websites you can go to for more information, such as:

Friends of the Earth Opens in a new window - an organisation that campaigns for solutions to environmental problems.

Waste Watch Opens in a new window - a leading environmental organisation working to change the way people use the world's natural resources. Its vision is a less wasteful society, and the organisation believes everyone has a part to play in reducing waste and living more sustainably.

We Are What We Do Opens in a new window - a movement working to inspire people to use their everyday actions to change the world. It is running a nationwide campaign to reduce the use of plastic bags, and co-created the Anya Hindmarch cotton shopper to raise awareness of the issue.
