Political Groups

London Councils is a cross-party organisation representing boroughs of every political complexion. This is the current political make up of London (after May 2006 elections):

The Conservatives control 14 of the 32 boroughs: Barnet, Bexley, Bromley, Croydon, Ealing, Enfield, Hammersmith and Fulham, Harrow, Havering, Hillingdon, Kensington and Chelsea, Redbridge, Wandsworth and Westminster..

Labour controls eight boroughs: Barking and Dagenham, Hackney, Haringey, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham (by virtue of the directly-elected mayor), Newham and Tower Hamlets.

The Liberal Democrats control three boroughs: Kingston, Richmond upon Thames and Sutton.

Seven boroughs have no overall political control: Brent, Camden, Islington, Hounslow, Merton, Southwark and Waltham Forest. They are run by either minority or joint administrations.

The City of London is politically independent.
