Political groups

London Councils is a cross-party organisation representing boroughs of every political complexion.

This is the current political make up of London (after May 2010 elections):

Labour control 16 of the 32 boroughs: Barking and Dagenham, Brent, Camden, Ealing, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Harrow, Hounslow, Greenwich, Islington, Lambeth, Lewisham, Newham, Southwark and Waltham Forest.

Conservatives control 11 boroughs: Barnet, Bexley, Bromley, Croydon, Hammersmith and Fulham, Havering, Hillingdon, Kensington and Chelsea, Richmond, Wandsworth and Westminster.

Liberal Democrats control 2 boroughs: Kingston and Sutton.

Two boroughs have no overall political control: Merton and Redbridge, and Tower Hamlets has an Independent directly elected mayor.

The City of London is politically independent.
