Mayor Jules Pipe has been Chair of London Councils since June 2010.
Re-elected as Mayor of Hackney for his fourth term in May 2014, Jules Pipe has held the position since October 2002 when he became the borough's first directly-elected mayor.
As one of only 16 directly-elected local authority mayors in the country, Jules has overseen the transformation of council finances and the delivery of council services in Hackney, resulting in a net increase of over 50 percentage points in resident satisfaction, and a three-star 'improving strongly' rating from the Audit Commission in February 2009.
Before becoming Mayor, Jules worked as a national newspaper journalist as well as serving as a ward councillor from 1996 to 2002, and leader of the council from June 2001 until elected as Mayor in 2002.
He was born and grew up in east London, and has lived in Hackney for 20 years.
