London Waste and Recycling Board
The Greater London Authority (GLA) Act 2007 enables the establishment a statutory Board to facilitate waste management across London - the London Waste and Recycling Board (LWaRB). At the end of 2007, government confirmed its intention to proceed with setting up the board in 2008.
The objective of the Board is to promote and encourage the production of less waste, an increase in the proportion of waste that is re-used or recycled and the use of methods of collection, treatment and disposal of waste which are more beneficial to the environment.
Part of the LWaRB's remit will be the allocation of up to £84 million funding starting 2008/09 (the London Waste and Recycling Fund).
The Board's primary provisions are set out in Section 356A and 356B of the Greater London Authorities Act 1999 (GLA Act) (as amended by the GLA Act 2007 s. 38(1)). Its membership and constitution are set out in the London Waste and Recycling Board Order 2008.
