Appointments to the LWaRB

The Mayor and London Councils formally announced the Board members on 15 August 2008.

The Board will be an eight member board to be chaired by the Mayor of London.

The remaining seven members will be as follows:

  • One independent member - appointed by the Mayor
  • Two independent members - appointed by London Councils
  • Four London Borough Councillors - appointed by London Councils

Mayoral Appointments

Chairman
The Mayor will chair the Board.

Mayoral appointed independent

  • Peter Jones OBE
    Peter has a track record of developing waste facilities and of financing waste infrastructure gained through over 20 years at Biffa Waste Management as well as having a high profile within the waste industry sitting as a member of several government advisory bodies.

London Councils Appointments

London Councils has six appointments, four borough representatives and two independent representatives.

London Borough appointments
The four London Borough members consist of 2 Conservatives, 1 Labour and 1 Liberal Democrat councillors.

  • Councillor David Williams, Leaders, London Borough of Merton
  • Councillor Daniel Moylan, Deputy Leader, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and Deputy Chairman of Transport for London
  • Councillor Clyde Loakes, London Borough of Waltham Forest
  • Councillor Colin Hall, Executive Councillor for Environment, E-government and Efficency - London Borough of Sutton.

London Councils appointed independents

  • Peter Calliafas
    Peter is an experienced company director with a comprehensive knowledge of waste management and a background in banking and finance. He is currently chairman of the body advising the government on waste electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Valerie Owen OBE
    Valerie is Managing Director of a consultancy specialising in sustainable development. She was previously Managing Director of London First, and chaired its Sustainable Development Task Force for London.
