London Lorry Control
Our service for London residents
To stop unnecessary lorry movements disturbing the peace of Londoners at night and at weekends, The Greater London (Restriction of Goods Vehicles) Traffic Order 1985 was introduced as an environmental control measure.
London Councils runs the scheme on behalf of the city, issuing permits to those lorry operators with essential business in London (around 56,000 permits per year).

Traffic Management Order
London Councils has now updated the traffic management order that governs the London Lorry Control Scheme. As well as updating the Excluded Route Network, the amendment removes the requirement for vehicles to display permits when they are using the restricted roads.
Vehicles will still need to be permitted, and London Councils will be issuing permits in the form of Schedules to approval letters. Hauliers will need to retain these Schedules as proof that their vehicle has been granted permission to use the restricted roads during prescribed hours however there is no need for the actual vehicles to display them.
These changes take effect as of 1 January 2010 - any enquiries should be made to the Lorry Control Team as detailed below.

We employ a team of officers to enforce the scheme and we deal with about 3,000 contraventions per year.
