Response to the Government's green paper: Shaping the Future of Care Together
In May 2008 the government announced a six month period of engagement with the public and stakeholders to reform the care and support system. Following this consultation process the government published a green paper on 14 July 2009 - Shaping the Future of Care Together - setting out a government vision for a new care and support system and proposing a National Care Service. This consultation closed on the 13 November 2009 with a white paper proposed by the government before the next general election in 2010.
This response sets out the views of London Councils on the consultation document, 'Shaping the Future of Care Together'.
In the creation of this response London Councils has consulted: borough leaders; Lead Members of Health and Adult Services; the London ADASS branch and borough officers; and other interested public sector, third sector and voluntary organisations. We have also commissioned research into the current and predicted expenditure on social care costs in London and elsewhere.
